hey everyone, i was just wondering if you all had hard IEP meetings, because i do. my school is such a pain in the ass, they're the richest school in montana, but they've provided nothing for me, nothing, i have a braille note, and my parents bought that for me, and when that goes down my school wants me to use a perkins brailler, anyway at the meetings they play like they know everything and nothing gets accomplished, they claim that giving me jaws on my computer at home would be illegal, which it isnt, at least i dont think it is... i dunno, but if you have troubles, post them here
Who does the JAWS belong to, you or the school? Cause I had a friend who was allowed to use a copy of the school's JAWS for her home system. Hell the school was even nice enough after she finished school to transfer the JAWS over to her name.
the jaws is the schools, but my case manager and everyone else is just stingy or something
Your school should be providing you with the materials you need to do your work. They're basically breaking the law by not doing that. and about using the school's copy of JAWS at home, I had asked about doing that before I signed up with my Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, and if I remember correctly, my teacher said no. something to do with an authorization number that's transferred from one of the JAWS CD's to the school computer for upgrade purposes, I don't remember. Anyway, wasn't too disappointed.
they claim that they are good enough resources, but not really... anyway my parents wont sign the i e p until the school gets better technology..
you and your parents need to speak up, since you know they're not providing you with what you need.
we do speak up, and theysystem says that they'll call another meeting, but they never do, and they say they'll look into doing stuff, but they never do, its kind of frustrating, because we speak up so much, its so insane of how little we're asking, and how little they'll do
yup, that's the same with my meetings, and what's worse is that I have to sit thrue them and watch the teachers lie rite in front of me and my Pearents
I could go on for hours about this topic. In 2006 I had to moove in the middle of the school year. My old school in nm was on the ball but tech support wasn't but that is another topic for another time. My new high school was a pain in the ass! They didn't get any of my books or anything. I was swent to school one day but had to go home because they didn't have any classes set up. They evern had another blind student but even she had a hard time. I used a braille and speak for note taking and a brailler for assignments. So anyway this school refused to get or barrow anything and the exscuse I heard was something along the lines of she only has another semester and we don't want to spend the money. Oh come on! Some times i think threse schools just need to gett off their lazy asses and do something!
I can totally understand the whole buying thing, because I use a braille sense, thanks to my parents. Otherwise I'd have...a braille scholar, maybe, but even that is doubtful. We had them in elementary school though, and our district is getting better because they actually got a grant to get another braille sense. But one of my best friends uses a braille writer in all of her classes...so I don't know. I just don't understand, like it has been said, why it's so hard to convince people to provide resources that are necessary for educational purposes. and the "she only has one semester left" is rediculous because it isn't about the time left, it's about what you do with that time. and the last semester of senior year is really important, it can't just be blown off, isn't that what they inforce?
Lol! My parents and me fight too. My district is tired of my parents. He refuses to sign things too. We do pretty good, it's some of the teachers though. I get a braille note, and things are running okay, it's just issues with other studdents. They get reports to my parents, like the conduct and everything. Really, hell, what does it matter to them to do that? I mean...
